Peru has has the lead in the production and export of quinoa. A superfood that brings together the 10 essential amino acids for the functioning of the human body. The main reason why it is the most requested in the world.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), our country is recognized for five consecutive years as the first world exporter of quinoa. The shipment of 51.6 thousand tons in 2020, shows an increase of 4.5% compared to 2019.
It should be noted that both countries represent 90% of the global production of the so-called «grain of the Incas». Also consider as one of the products that can contribute to combat the current pandemic of covid-19.
In 2020, the United States is presented as the main destination country for Peruvian quinoa, with shipments of US $ 44.6 million and a share of 35.5%. Followed by Canada with 11.98 million (9.5%) and the Netherlands with 9.4 million (7.5%). These three countries comprise more than 52% of the market.
Similarly, the countries that showed the highest growth in their shipments compared to the same period of 2019 were: The Netherlands with 33.1%, Italy with 27.2% and Canada with 24.6%.
