Meet Rubén,  one of our growers who shared his story: «My parents educated us in the city, they did not want us to be in the countryside. That’s why we only went to the country on holidays or weekends. Since they had the mentality that if we went back to the field, it would be with a professional degree to do something. This is how I entered the university and finished microbiology at the San Cristobal University of Huamanga.»

I started in the quinoa business with my sister, my brother and my mom. In 1988, in the government of former President Alan García, he gave us to plant native products of the area. And with it he gave us certain benefits, like paying us 10 times what it cost.»

«After the government of Alan García, the quinoa business went down again. Little was planted for the local market. Then, in 2013 or 2014 the «quinoa boom» began and it began to be sown again.»

It has been a completely abandoned field, but we have already improved it by clearing all the stones. It was completely fixed, we even have drip irrigation and spray irrigation. Currently, we have 2 campaigns a year and for 5 years we started to produce organic quinoa. Because we realized that we get higher profit margins with organic quinoa.»
